Hi Justin. We'll talk about you for a while and about your next band that you recently put together.
Alan - First of all, imagine where you live, what is your civilian occupation, and in what bands you played and so far you are active + tell the band's focus.
Justin – I live in a town called Chesterfield, I work for National Trust at one of their properties called Kedleston Hall which was built in the 17th century, I work at the visitor reception there, been there no for 3 years now.
Ive played in a few bands over the years but I have 3 main ones Chaos bleak, The Crimson Brigade (black metal) and my first band 13 Candles (Goth).
I just like creating music and have been for 33 years now.
Alan - The last band you put together is Chaos Bleak. Since when did the kapelas exist? And why did you decide to put this group together?
Justin – I have been friends with Trev since 1992 when he got in touch with my band 13 Candles about us joining Nightbreed records, we have been friends ever since, I have wanted to work with Trev for many years but the opportunity never came up until a few months ago when I saw that Trev and Piers had posted they needed a bass player for a band that was a mix between Killing Joke and Play dead. 2 bands I love and I was also thinking of doing a project like this so I messaged them and said I was interested, the rest is history as they say.
Alan - How much do you have with Chaos Bleak? And how many of your own songs do you play?
Justin – we have 12 songs finished 2 need vocals recording on and 2 more in the process of being written as far as I am aware, I sure Trev know the number lol.
Only 2 are covers but we are working on 2 more covers which are nods to mine and Trevs bands 13 Candles and Every New Dead Ghost.
Alan - So far you release everything as a single or EP electronically. Free to listen. Do you have any intention in this?
Justin – it was done for a reason which Trev is best at explaining over Trev ………
Alan - Chaos Bleak is a band that plays a mix of Proto-Goth Rock / Metal. Who brought you to this genre or what? Pattern in other groups, this focus?
Justin – I have always believed the only way to create a new sound is to mix what influences you and just go with what sounds best to you, what feels right to you.
Alan - We turn completely. What made you do music for years? And why marginal genres?
Justin – I never intended to be a musician, I love music and always listened to music and watched bands, a friend of mine got a guitar for Christmas one year when I was 14 and said lets form a band, so I got a bass and that was my start. I liked Goth in the 80s but was more into metal at the time but I got into Goth in a big way in 1990 and formed 13 Candles in 1992 and it went from there.
Now I play bass ,guitar, keys, sing and produce and record, im self taught and never had a lesson.
Alan - Just as you had with other bands where you performed, for each song and picture material. Clip. Will you do it with Chaos Blake?
Justin – with every single we will release a video as people want and expect you to do one and also they are fun to do
Alan - Chas Bleak sound is built differently than other bands. Which is interesting. Again the question, why are you doing this?
Justin - we are an unholy trinity and each part we bring creates the chaos bleak monster, Trev with his guitar sound and style along with his backing tracks, my bass lines and sound and Piers voice and lyrics, it’s a mix that works and it shows with the amount of material we have and how the band has come together with our own sound in such a short space of time, it was meant to be.
Alan - Do you know the Czech Republic? Have you been here before? Any insights? Or attractions for you?
Justin – I have been to Praha (Prague) once a few years ago and fell in love with the city, I want to go back some more as soon as I can, the people were lovely and I loved the history culture there.
Alan - Thanks for the interview. In conclusion, a message to our listeners? Readers?
Justin –a big thank you for taking the time to listen to our music and support the band. We hope to play your fine country if a promoter would like to book us.
