Hello
Alan - Thanks for being able to make a interwiev for our medium.
Eli: Hello Alan, thank you for your invitation!
Alan - Who are you and who answers questions?
Eli: I'm Elisabeth, Elisabeth Cutler. I play guitar and write songs and I sing them. I've lived most of my life in The States and then I moved to Europe in 2003, I moved to Rome, Italy.
Alan - How many times were u playing in Czech republic?
Eli: I've played in the Czech republic one time, in Prague in 2012, at Jazz Time club.
Alan - Where can we check you out?
Eli: The best place to check me out is on my website www.elisabethcutler.com, where you can read my biography (in 3 languages) and you can listen to some of my music from my 7 original albums, and read the song lyrics, and watch videos.
Alan - When someone would have interest in your concerts in Czech Republic, where they can hit you out?
Eli: If you're are interested in hearing me live in concert, you can start by checking out my music on the internet - especially on my website – also on my YouTube channel where you'll find some videos of my live performances also with interviews, as well as other artists that I post on my YouTube channel, I like and whom I am influenced by are and check my website for tourdates.
Alan - Whats your last album, and what are you planing to do?
Eli: My last album was called, Polishing Stones, and it was released in 2015. My new album, which is my 7th album, is called "Silence is Rising", and it's being released in the Spring of 2019. It's always great to have a new album and new songs, it gives me alot of inspiration to get out there and perform and play some concerts and bring the music to the people.
Alan - Where in Czech was the best city to play, and why?
Eli: Oh, well, I've played only in Prague, so I don't know the other cities in the CR, I'd love to get to know them! I've heard that the city of Brno makes some nice musical events and festivals. Excuse me if I mis-pronounce BRNO. BRNO. BRNO. Okay. Of course I know that Prague has a great history as a cultural center.
I've heard that there's an interest in singer-songwriters with acoustic guitars here, because I know there are also some great guitar-makers here, some Czech luthiers, who are building some beautiful acoustic guitars, and I think there must be an interest in american Country music because of all these guitars. I lived in Nashville TN for 13 years, during the 90's, although I'm NOT a Country singer, but I am influenced as a songwriter by american country music, I'm actually more curious about the Czech Jazz artists and musicians; and I think there's of course a great audience here in all the Czech cities and towns, so I look forward to playing here, thanks.
Alan - Do you have any favourite festival?
Eli: Oh let me see, that's a nice question... my favorite festivals; I like Jazz Festivals and Songwriter Festivals. I'm curious about the Bohemian Jazz Festival. This is a famous and very interesting festival, how it moves around from town to town, like a circus, no? I think it was started by a Czech guitar player, Rudy Linka, and I'm a guitar player, so I might have to go find this Bohemian Jazz Festival.
Alan - And in foreign countries? do you have any favourite festival or club?
Eli: Oh dreaming about festivals all over the world! There are so many wonderful festivals and clubs all over the world! You know the best festival for me, that comes to mind, in a foriegn country, in the states , is the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in Louisiana. That happens every Spring over a 2 week period of time, and it's a beautiful festival because it's so well organized, and it'd also alot of fun at the same time, and it's not terribly expensive, they try to keep it reasonable for everybody to be able to enjoy it . There's great food and beautiful crafts, handmade crafts, and many stages and great artists from all over the world, but specializing in the local New Orleans music scene which is so unique and so wonderful. I've been to that festival many times when I lived in the States. Also, mostly I work in Germany, and I really like the festivals in Germany, they do such a good job, at organizing and getting very special performers, so I like the Rudolstadt Festival and the Bardentreffen Festival. Those are 2 that come to mind. There are so many cool clubs in many places! I can't even start o name them! But the festivals are very memorable.
Alan - Do you know any czech musicians or bands?
Eli: Oh let's see, CzechI would love to know more Czech artists and musicians. I am particularly interested in Jazz players, saxophone, bassists, drummers. I have heard bassist Pavel J Ryba, (if I say his name correctly). I've heard him on a live video on the internet, and we have mutual friends, so I'd love to meet him. I know a Czech saxophon player named Joe Kucera, who lives in Berlin. He's such a nice person and an easy, fluid player. I've heard him only one time, but very memorable. Those 2 guys, Pavel and Joe, and I look forward to learning more Czech musicians, and I'm sure I will!
Alan - You are a long time on a scene. Do you have any unfulfilled musician dream?
Eli: Well actually, I'm living my dreams right now, every day! It just keeps getting better, so I'll keep following the road I'm on and see where it leads...
Alan - What 3 songs do people wanna hear at concerts? and what is your opinion?
Eli: Ok, 3 songs, that people wan to hear at concerts...I think one song is, "Sanctuary", which is an older song of mine from my 4th album, "Hurricane of Change", but we've re-recorded this song as a new version with a string quartet, on my new album, "Silence is Rising", which is released in Spring 2019. This song, "Sanctuary" is a timeless theme that continues to be realevant especially today, when so many people need a sanctuary, and a safe place where they feel protected.
Also my song, "Missing Love", from my 5th album, "Slow Release", is a very memorable song that people ask to hear again and again.
As well as another song from "Slow Release", is "The Ghost of my Blues", it's a swinging blues/jazz songs that people remember and want to hear again.
So it would be Sanctuary, Missing Love, and Ghost of my Blues
Alan - What is your favourite 3 songs from you?
Eli: Oh, great, thank you, now I get to chose 3 songs! But I have 7 albums of original songs and I like of them, so it's hard to chose only 3! but I can say that I really like the title cuts of my last 2 albums, "Polishing Stones" and "Silence is Rising", and also, from my 5th album, "Slow Release", I still play the song "Missing Love".
Right now I'm promoting my new album, "Silence is Rising", so I'd like to refer to the songs from that disk. The first song "No One's Woman", that we've made into a very interesting music video that you can find on the internet and YouTube and on my website, No One's Woman. And another song that I really alot that other people like too, is called "The Alchemy of Being Human", and the third song from my new album I really like is the title cut, "Silence is Rising".
Alan - What do you wanna say to your fans in czech republic?
Eli: Okay, I'd like to say thank you for listening and for being curious about my music and for being curious about all music in general! Musicians are going through a difficult time right now, because of the internet and file sharing and streaming – it's become very difficult to earn a living as a musician now, but there are still live concerts and this is where we can connect with the audience and real people. The internet is alright for getting some music out there and for you to be able o listen and have a taste of what we do, but LIVE music is the real thing, so I want to thank the public for supporting and coming out to enjoy real music, not just virtual!
